Akil Yunus is a current affairs journalist-turned researcher specializing in security and violent extremism. He heads the strategic planning and execution of research projects at IMAN Research, a community think-tank in Malaysia. He has a Masters in International Relations (Terrorism and Political Violence) from the University of Birmingham. His primary research interests include community-level prevention strategies against extremism, disengagement, and reintegration of former terrorists, and alternative narratives to combat radicalization.
