Nikolay Surkov is an Expert at the Russian International Affairs Council and a Senior Researcher for the Center of the Middle East Studies at the Primakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO), Russian Academy of Sciences.
He graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Institute of Asian and African Studies. Surkov has been an Associate Professor of the Department of Oriental Studies at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) under the MFA of Russia since 2010.
His research interests include international relations in the Middle East, domestic and foreign policy of the Arab States, regional interethnic and interfaith conflicts, military affairs, and trends in the political and economic development of Arab states.
Prior to joining IMEMO RAS, Surkov covered international politics in various Russian media outlets, such as Nezavisimaya Gazeta, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, and Izvestia daily. He is a regular speaker and media commentator on Middle East politics. Surkov has a Ph.D. in Political Science.
