I welcome you to this press conference organized by TRENDS Research & Advisory to share the details of our Global Economic E-Forum. The Forum is being held at a critical time for the countries of this region and the world. This Forum coincides with the resumption of economic activities after a difficult period of complete lockdown, isolation, and quarantine measures, which have cost the global economy trillions of dollars.

The decision to organize the E-forum stems from our relentless efforts to analyze the devastating consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic on the global economy. Needless to say, the pandemic is the most serious challenge facing our world since the Great Depression in the 1930s. It is set to bring about a major transformation in the existing structure of the international economic system.

TRENDS Research & Advisory has been at the forefront of think-tanks, highlighting the various dimensions and consequences of Covid-19. By carrying out an array of research activities and organizing events, TRENDS has done its best to analyze and project the transforming international landscape in the post-corona period.

Among the most prominent of our activities in recent months was an E-Forum – Confronting the Challenges of COVID-19: A New Global Outlook – held in March 2020. It was the first-of-its-kind event in the Middle East region. TRENDS also launched a unique initiative – Strategic Dialogue E-Forum – in May 2020, which was attended and followed by prominent researchers and academics from around the world.

At TRENDS, we are pursuing a foretelling constructive approach seeking to achieve the ambitious objectives we have devised for ourselves. We are keen to establish and sustain communication channels with the most prominent think-tanks in the region and globally.

We have invited leading economists from around the globe to participate in the Global Economic Forum activities. We are keen to ensure a diversity of vision and prudent opinion and derive lessons that can help the planners of economic policies around the world to find effective and constructive ways to handle the impact of Covid-19. Accordingly, the policymakers can also devise proper recovery policies for the post-corona period.
