The two think-tanks to produce research papers and exchange expertise besides co-organizing workshops and conferences on subjects of mutual interest

 ABU DHABI, October 10 – TRENDS Research & Advisory has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Washington-based Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) to enhance cooperation between the two think-tanks in the fields of research and media.

As per the agreement, TRENDS and MEMRI will collaborate to produce joint research papers and exchange expertise besides co-organizing workshops, symposiums, and conferences on subjects of mutual interest. The two sides have agreed to focus on critical Middle East issues such as analyzing political Islamist movements, terrorist and extremist groups, major powers’ policies toward the Middle East, Arab-Israeli issues, and security and cooperation in technology innovation.

Established in 1998, MEMRI is headquartered in Washington DC and has branches in Jerusalem, Berlin, Rome, Baghdad, and Tokyo. The organization bridges the language gap between the West and the Middle East and South Asia, providing translations of Arabic, Farsi, Urdu-Pashtu, Dari, Turkish, and Russian media, and original analysis of political, ideological, intellectual, social, cultural, and religious trends. It also makes the translations related to religious, cultural, social, ideological, political trends and analyses available.

TRENDS Research & Advisory seeks to build a network of robust partnerships with global research centers, governments, and non-government organizations, and institutions. It aims to benefit from international research experiences to enhance its academic performance at the regional and global levels.

TRENDS has signed several memoranda of cooperation and understanding with many international think-tanks during the ongoing year. An agreement it signed with SAGE International, Australia, is aimed to boost collaboration in research, conduct workshops, and round-tables and cooperate in political, security, information technology, and strategic forecasting arenas.

TRENDS also recently signed an MoU with the Israeli Institute for Regional Foreign Policies (Mitvim) to empower the future through academic research and cooperation. TRENDS entered into an MoU with King’s College, London, to boost research partnership and exchange expertise. The agreement also makes provision for collective efforts to produce studies related to terrorism and extremism worldwide.

The agreements are also meant to enhance cooperation in publishing studies and policy papers shared by both the think-tanks. They also lead to greater collaboration in the exchange of published material, translation, and safeguarding copyrights.
