David Hartwell

David has more than 25 years of experience in the UK defence intelligence community, risk analysis business with the world-renowned Janes organization, and most recently in the commercial open-source intelligence collection and assessment environment. Throughout his career, he has focused on the Middle East and North Africa region, particularly Egypt, Iran, Israel and the Palestinian Territories, and the Levant. He has particular expertise in analysing the political motivations of regional actors and their relationship with wider geopolitics, and the relationship between military tactics, strategy, and political objectives.
