The new edition aligns with TRENDS’ strategy to expand the global reach of its research output and strengthen its presence on international cultural and intellectual platforms. Ahead of its upcoming participation in the Paris Book Fair as a special guest at the Grand Palais, TRENDS Research & Advisory announced the release of the French translation of the eighth volume of its encyclopedia on the Muslim Brotherhood, titled The Relationship Between the Muslim Brotherhood and Egypt’s Ruling Regimes: From the Royal Era to 2021. The new edition aligns with TRENDS’ strategy to expand the global reach of its research output and strengthen its presence on international cultural and intellectual platforms, particularly in Europe, by providing well-documented content in multiple languages for researchers, enthusiasts, and the broader public. The book examines the nature of the Brotherhood’s relationship with successive Egyptian regimes from the monarchy until 2021, analyzing the oscillating dynamics between cooperation and confrontation. It explores the group’s tools for managing conflict, including religious, political, media, economic, and social instruments, as well as its use of “hard power” and “external leverage,” as identified by the study. Comprising six chapters, the book begins with methodology and theoretical framework, followed by analysis of the Brotherhood’s interactions with political regimes during the period 1928–1970, its relationship with the late presidents Anwar Sadat and Hosni Mubarak, its stance on the January 25 Revolution, and an analysis of its rise and decline, culminating like its relationship with the ruling system after July 3, 2013. The study concludes that the Brotherhood’s relationship with Egypt’s ruling systems never followed a single pattern but was characterized by mutual instrumentalization, alternating between cooperation and confrontation. It emphasizes that even one year of Brotherhood governance was sufficient to reveal internal contradictions and the group’s lack of capacity to manage the state, and that its relationship with the political system after June 30 was marked by confrontation for survival. Dr. Mohamed Abdullah Al Ali, CEO of TRENDS, affirmed that releasing the French translation coincides with the center’s anticipated participation in the Paris Book Fair and reflects TRENDS’ commitment to delivering its research to a wider audience. He noted that the Brotherhood encyclopedia comprises 35 volumes, eight of which have been published to date, and that several have been translated into 16 languages as part of a global strategy to disseminate documented knowledge rigorously and promote intellectual dialogue grounded in scholarly research.
