Trends Research and Advisory has released the 18th issue of its series of strategic directions in English entitled: “Cybersecurity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” The study warns that the rapid development of artificial intelligence has rendered the process of managing change in human societies more complex.
The study was conducted by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al-Kuwaiti, Chairman of the Cyber Security Council of the UAE Government. He indicated that the Laws, regulations, and policies are no sooner established than they are overtaken by a new technological advancement that necessitates their reconfiguration, which poses a challenge for various institutions to face the new reality.
The study confirmed the increasing reliance on the Internet in all areas of life, including social, political, economic or even military, accelerates potential security risks, especially with the adoption of sensitive infrastructure on the Internet, such as surveillance and security systems, power plants and self-driving transportation.
The study warned that the main problem is that the Internet infrastructure, which runs all of these smart interactions, is not without vulnerabilities and cybersecurity threats.
The study explained that the silicon-based system and the binary system used in computers and software, has proven to be a great success over the past 50 years. This may not be able to meet future technological challenges. It has become necessary to reconsider the working mechanism of this system in order to ensure a stable and secure life against cybersecurity threats.
The study stressed that a security system founded on the premise of zero vulnerabilities will not be enough to protect human societies that benefit from the advantages and gains of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, robotics and self-driving cars.
The author warned that if these systems are hacked, the losses will be disastrous, and would be able to return humanity to the Dark Ages. He cautioned that the prosperous life provided by smart luxuriant technology would then turn into a mere pile of electronic devices and turn human bodies stacked on top of one another in a few moments.
