TRENDS Research & Advisory successfully wrapped up its fourth participation in the 56th Cairo International Book Fair, organized by the Egyptian General Book Organization over a span of 14 days at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre, under the theme “Read… In the beginning was the Word”. TRENDS enriched the fair with over 350 publications, along with a wide range of specialized research studies.
This year’s participation saw the launch of two new books on cybersecurity, authored by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Hamad Al-Kuwaiti, Chairman of the UAE Cyber Security Council. In addition, TRENDS engaged in several research activities during its visit to Cairo, including five symposia and discussion panels and the signing of two strategic agreements for research and academic collaboration.
Harnessing AI for Sustainable Development
As part of its research activities, TRENDS, through its virtual office in Egypt, organized a symposium titled “Harnessing AI for Sustainable Development: Future Insights and Perspectives”. The event, held in partnership with Egypt’s Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center and Bibliotheca Alexandrina, brought together ministers, ambassadors, and experts to explore the transformative role of AI in global development.
Countering Extremist Narratives
TRENDS also hosted a high-level discussion session with H.E. Counselor Abdel Wahab Abdel Razeq, Speaker of the Egyptian Senate, and key parliamentary figures. Discussions focused on the role of research in shaping legislative policies, the critical contribution of think tanks in combating extremist ideologies, and the importance of AI research in future foresight and knowledge advancement.
Another session was held with H.E. Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Egypt’s Minister of Endowments, emphasizing the need to counter radical ideologies and promote values of tolerance and moderation. Meanwhile, the TRENDS Youth Council organized a discussion session with H.E. Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, where they explored youth empowerment, skill development, and intellectual protection from extremist narratives.
Advancing Joint Research Initiatives
In line with its commitment to fostering research collaborations, TRENDS held a discussion session with Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, to examine the role of think tanks and research institutions in knowledge dissemination and cultural development. This meeting culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate joint scientific research, specialized conferences, and collaborative research projects aimed at addressing global challenges.
Additionally, TRENDS signed a cooperation agreement with Salam Center for Extremism Studies, solidifying their joint commitment to research-driven strategies for combating extremism. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of His Eminence Dr. Nazir Ayyad, Grand Mufti of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide.
Expanding Research and Advisory Services
Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research & Advisory, emphasized that the center’s fourth participation in the Cairo International Book Fair provided a valuable platform to showcase its research vision and objectives. It also allowed visitors to explore TRENDS’ research, training, and advisory services.
Dr. Al-Ali described the Cairo International Book Fair as a global hub for intellectuals, writers, and cultural figures, noting that the event continues to strengthen its position as a premier Arab and international platform for publishing, knowledge exchange, and thought leadership.
Commitment to Knowledge Dissemination
Dr. Al-Ali reiterated TRENDS’ dedication to participating in major regional and international cultural events as part of its mission to disseminate knowledge and provide high-quality research content that fosters future-oriented thinking.
He also highlighted the center’s recent membership in the Arab Publishers Association, reinforcing its commitment to supporting the publishing industry on both regional and global scales.
Diverse and Impactful Content
Rawdha Al-Marzooqi, Director of Distribution and Exhibitions at TRENDS, emphasized that TRENDS’ pavilion at the Cairo International Book Fair served as a hub for cultural exchange, attracting ministers, ambassadors, officials, intellectuals, researchers, and academics. She noted the high level of engagement from attendees, who praised the depth, diversity, and richness of TRENDS’ research publications.
Al-Marzouqi highlighted that TRENDS presented over 350 diverse scientific, economic, and political research publications at the fair. These included specialized series covering international security, foreign policy, artificial intelligence, advanced technology, climate change, and global environmental issues.
She also noted that throughout the 14-day event, TRENDS explored avenues for research and academic collaborations with leading international institutions, research centers, and cultural organizations. The goal was to strengthen knowledge exchange, foster research partnerships, and facilitate intellectual dialogue on pressing global issues.
