Urs Unkauf is Plenipotentiary Extraordinary for Global External Affairs at the Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade (BWA Global Economic Network) and formerly served as its Federal Managing Director. Based in Berlin, the association functions as both a business network and a think tank for economic diplomacy. He is also Senior Advisor to the TRENDS Office in Berlin.
He studied history and sociology with a focus on international affairs and diplomacy in Tübingen, Aix-en-Provence/Marseille, and Berlin. Prior to his current role, he was a visiting researcher at the School of Public and International Affairs at ADA University in Baku and served as a research associate to a member of the German Bundestag.
Mr. Unkauf lectures on energy and foreign policy at the Department of Historical and Political Education within the Leadership Development and Civic Education Centre of the German Armed Forces. He is the author and editor of numerous publications on diplomacy, geopolitics, and energy policy, including several books on the history of Germany’s diplomatic relations.
