Trends Research and Advisory has released an analytical study entitled “Pakistan Elections 2024: The Complexity of the Political Landscape and the Multiplicity of Scenarios.” The study examines various aspects of Pakistan’s elections held on February 8, 2024, provides an in-depth analysis of their results, and assesses their impact on Pakistan’s future.
The study, prepared by the Department of Strategic Studies at Trends, showed the absence of a clear majority for any party, as none of the major political parties won the majority required to form a government, leading to political uncertainty.
The independent candidates backed by the “Insaf” achieved remarkable results, and this suggests a possible shift in the average voter sentiment.
Intensive negotiations are taking place between political parties to form a coalition government, with open possibilities for the future of alliances, at a time when Pakistan faces significant economic and security challenges. This would entail great pressure on the new government.
The results of these elections will affect Pakistan’s foreign policy, especially given the complexity of relations with regional powers.
The study recommended the need to accelerate the formation of a stable government capable of addressing the challenges faced by Pakistan. There is a need to reform the current electoral system to address the downsides. Special focus should be on the pressing economic and social issues, such as poverty, unemployment and insecurity. Another aspect is the need for constructive political dialogue between various political parties to ensure long-term political stability.
