As a knowledge partner, TRENDS Research & Advisory played a central role in the inaugural edition of the Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit (GETS) 2025, held on May 5-6 at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Abu Dhabi. The summit brought together over 500 participants, including senior officials, decision-makers, and experts from across the region and the world.
TRENDS’ participation reflected its knowledge partnership with the summit, which was organized by the Advanced Technology Research Council in strategic collaboration with the Public Prosecution of the UAE. The event aimed to strengthen international cooperation in the governance of emerging technologies, with a focus on AI, quantum computing, blockchain, and bioengineering.

Call for Collaboration
On the second day of the summit, Dr. Mohammed Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research & Advisory, delivered a keynote address titled “Global Call for Collaboration in Governing Emerging Technologies.” In his address, he emphasized the importance of developing proactive and balanced legislative frameworks that keep pace with rapid technological transformation, contribute to achieving digital justice, and safeguard human rights in the age of AI.

Dr. Al-Ali stated: “We are facing an undeniable truth; technology cannot evolve in isolation from justice, and justice cannot fulfill its role unless it keeps up with the depth of digital transformation.”
He called for building bridges of cooperation between ministries of justice, public prosecutions, police authorities, and think tanks worldwide to develop sound governance systems based on transparency, adaptability, and legal innovation.

Dr. Al-Ali also stressed the need to empower judicial personnel and enhance their understanding of digital tools and AI, noting that “judicial imagination must match the imagination of the programmer, and justice must lead algorithms, not follow them.”
He affirmed that the UAE, with its visionary and proactive leadership, is the ideal platform to launch this global call, praising the country’s position as a global hub for innovation and a key contributor to shaping the future of digital governance.

The Post-Quantum Computing Era
TRENDS also participated in a keynote panel at the summit titled “Cybersecurity and Governance in the Post-Quantum Era,” moderated by researcher Elyazia Al-Hosani, Deputy Head of Media Sector at TRENDS.

The session featured Janne Hirvimies, CTO of QuantumGate, and offered an in-depth discussion on the challenges and opportunities that quantum computing presents for cybersecurity. It explored the latest regulatory frameworks, including NIST standards, and strategies for preparing businesses for the shift beyond traditional encryption methods. The session also highlighted the vital role of research institutions and think tanks in anticipating future digital risks and providing actionable recommendations for legislative and executive bodies. This ensures a balance between rapid innovation, the protection of privacy and national security.
