Symposium on “Culture and Identity in the Age of Globalization and the Knowledge Revolution”

On 29 January 2022, TRENDS Research and Advisory, in collaboration with the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) of the Egyptian Cabinet, held a symposium titled “Culture and Identity in the Age of Globalization and the Knowledge Revolution” as part of the Cairo International Book Fair. The symposium addressed one of the most critical issues facing Arab countries due to the current digital revolution, featuring distinguished experts, thinkers, and academics from Egypt and the Arab world.

The participants in the symposium included Dr. Mohamed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research and Advisory; Dr. Osama El-Gohary, Assistant to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the IDSC; Dr. Hamad Al Kaabi, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Ittihad newspaper; Dr. Sultan Faisal Al-Remeithi, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Elders; Eng. Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, former UAE Ambassador to Egypt; and Dr. Mohamed Afifi, Professor of Modern and Contemporary History and Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Culture. The symposium was moderated by Kuwaiti media figure Mohammed Al Mulla.

The symposium discussed various issues, such as the impact of globalization and the knowledge revolution on culture and national identity, the role of think tanks and research centers in confronting the negative impacts on culture and national identity, current threats to culture and national identity in light of the ongoing knowledge revolution, the role of culture and media in enhancing national identity, the boundaries of the knowledge revolution’s impact on culture and national identity, and global citizenship and national identity.
