TRENDS Research and Advisory and the Brazil Africa Institute, in a promising development that reflects their shared commitment to advancing research collaboration, have inked an agreement of cooperation. The landmark accord paves the way for new horizons in strategic studies and research in areas of shared interest.
The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Sidney Leon Romeiro, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the UAE.
The agreement, convened at the TRENDS Research and Advisory headquarters in Abu Dhabi and signed by Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS, and Dr. João Bosco Monte, President of the Brazil Africa Institute, spans an array of domains. It begins with collaborative research and studies on critical issues including food security, climate change, migration, and cybersecurity. It also entails the facilitation of joint events such as conferences, seminars, and workshops, fostering the interchange of expertise and researchers between the two entities, and culminating in the publication of collaborative research and studies in esteemed peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali highlighted the significance of this agreement in enhancing collaboration between TRENDS Research and Advisory and the Brazil Africa Institute, particularly against the backdrop of the rapid global developments unfolding.
He added: “The agreement marks a major stride in fortifying global research partnerships for TRENDS, enabling the exchange of experiences and insights on various issues of common interest, particularly the burgeoning focus on the African continent, which have garnered substantial global attention. We commend the Brazil Africa Institute’s pivotal role in this endeavor, recognizing its invaluable contribution to advancing collaborative efforts in addressing pressing challenges”.
Professor João Bosco Monte, President of the Brazil Africa Institute, said “the signing of this agreement with the TRENDS Research and Advisory is a momentous occasion, as we join forces with a renowned global platform and a vital international research hub. It highlights the crucial need for global inter-institutional cooperation across the globe”.
Professor João Bosco Monte indicated that the agreement heralds new vistas of collaboration between TRENDS Research and Advisory and the Brazil Africa Institute, particularly in strategic studies pertaining to Latin America-Africa relations.
On the sidelines of the signing event, a significant dialogue unfolded as part of the TRENDS’ Global Dialogue initiative. Notably, His Excellency the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the UAE, and the President of the Brazil Africa Institute discussed the pivotal role of scientific research in international relations. They highlighted how cooperation between Brazil and African nations serves as a cornerstone for fostering stronger South-South partnerships, in line with their country’s overarching strategic goals.
It is noteworthy that the Brazil Africa Institute, founded in 2013 as a non-profit organization with its headquarters in Fortaleza, Brazil, and an operational office in Accra, Ghana, is dedicated to fostering collaboration between Brazil and Africa across a spectrum of sectors, ranging from South-South and Triangular Cooperation to agriculture, rural development, technical training, youth empowerment, and other topics.
Its initiates are built based on three strategic pillars of action, such as capacity-building programs, events and research and publications. Furthermore, the institute’s endeavors play a pivotal role in propelling sustainable development initiatives across the African continent.
