Introduction
The Abu Dhabi Declaration on Human Fraternity is an important document and step with regard to interfaith dialogue. This joint statement was signed by Pope Francis and Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, on 4 February 2019. Even though it is not the first step in this field, it is an important one as it seeks to strengthen a “culture of mutual respect” through dialogue, tolerance, justice and peace. It has a symbolic dimension, but it is also the expression of the will, urge and understanding of the need for more cooperation.
