Dr. Magsud Mammadov is the Director of Innovation and Global R&D Initiatives at the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Türkiye R&D and Innovation Company. He previously served as the External Relations Director for the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), part of the Southern Gas Corridor project, which connects seven countries to transport Caspian gas to Europe. Before his tenure in the energy sector, Dr. Mammadov held positions in government, international organizations, and NGOs, including roles at the United Nations, the United States Congress, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Global Crossroads in Tanzania, and the SOCAR Dubai Office.
Dr. Mammadov holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas State University, a master’s degree in energy policy and international political economy from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and a PhD in politics from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). He is currently a Research Associate at the Centre for Contemporary Central Asia and the Caucasus (CCCAC), London, UK. His research areas include identity politics, political psychology, the politics of innovation and AI, China’s foreign policy, and the (geo)politics of renewable energy.
