Dr. Maria A. Petrova

Co-Director of Environment and Sustainability Management Program at George Town University

Dr. Maria Petrova works at Georgetown University as a Professor and Program Director. She believes that the current climate and energy challenges are so complex that they can only be solved by engaging multiple disciplines and stakeholders and by educating future leaders. Petrova designed and launched the MS in Environment and Sustainability Management (http://esm.georgetown.edu) which spans across three disciplinary departments. Petrova’s research and teaching interests focus on sustainability, climate, and energy. She publishes extensively on public perceptions of renewable energy in the US and in Eastern Europe. She has taught courses on energy transitions, climate change, environmental policy, and sustainability. She is originally from Bulgaria where she obtained her BA in Business Administration from the first graduating class of the American University in Bulgaria. She also holds a Master of Marketing from the University of Sheffield and a PhD in Environmental Science from Oregon State University.
