Dr. Yousry El-Azbawy

Dr. Yousry El-Azbawy is a senior researcher at TRENDS Research and Advisory. Earlier, he worked as an expert at Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, deputy director of the Arab Center for Research and Studies, and a lecturer at many Arab universities and research centers. He received his MA and PhD from the Cairo University Faculty of Economics and Political Science with “excellent” grade. He participated in numerous international conferences in many countries, including the US, Russia, Germany, Indonesia and China, in addition to a number of Arab countries. He authored and edited many books, including ‘the Diaspora Copts: The State, Church and Citizenship Triad”; “The Shift in the Civil Society Structure After the Egyptian Revolutions”; “The Political Process in Iraq from 2003 to 2006”; “The Future of Islamist Groups in the Arab World”; and “Daesh: Studies in the Organization’s Structure”. He also authored numerous studies and books on the electoral process, parliament, political parties, and the democratic transition in the Arab world. He participated in preparing the Arabic Electoral Dictionary, issued by the United Nations Development Programme. He published many studies in English. He is an occasional writer in a number of Arab newspapers and magazines, such as Al-Ahram, Al-Khaleej, and Oman Today. He is also a political analyst on a number of Arab channels.
