Professor Fares Howari

Interim Vice Provost and Dean - Fort Valley State University

Dr. Fares Howari is a distinguished environmental scientist, engineer, and educational leader with a remarkable record in academic administration and research. He has served in numerous prominent academic roles, including as Interim Vice Provost for Academic affairs and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Fort Valley State University and also served Dean of the College of Natural and Health Sciences at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates. Throughout his career, Dr. Howari has demonstrated exceptional leadership in implementing strategic initiatives and advancing academic programs.

With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Howari has managed diverse research and educational projects, publishing more than 180 research studies and two seminal books. His work spans the technical, economic, and policy aspects of environmental issues, reflecting his interdisciplinary expertise. He has also contributed significantly as Program Coordinator at the Center for International Energy and Environmental Policy (CIEEP) and as an environmental scientist at the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Howari’s served at Texas A&M University as a research scientist focused on developing and applying computer models to assess environmental contamination and conduct risk assessments. These efforts have been crucial for environmental impact assessments and baseline studies. His extensive experience includes management, strategic planning, and creative leadership, underpinned by strong academic and project coordination skills. Beyond his professional roles, Dr. Howari has gained international experience as an environmental volunteer in regions such as Jordan, the US-Mexico border, and the UAE. His expertise in environmental geosciences, water resource management, environmental policy and resource development has earned him a national and international reputation.
