The Trends Sectors Alliance at Trends Research and Advisory launched an index to measure the acceptance rate of the Muslim Brotherhood around the world. The measurement analyzes the views of the users of social media platforms towards the Brotherhood. The survey covers the period from January 1 to December 31, 2023. The measurement also monitors comments and writings about the Muslim Brotherhood, to measure the popularity rate of the group, and the attitudes of global public opinion towards them. The measurement analyzes the content of 1.67 million tweets and incoming posts published about the Brotherhood in 2023. These posts were published by 26.6 thousand users, with a daily average of 4.56 thousand posts. The result of the general measurement towards the Brotherhood reached 46; it represents a neutral trend that is closer to negative. The measurement found that October 2023 is considered the most interactive month about the Muslim Brotherhood, due to the events in Gaza and the group’s association with Hamas. In fact, October 18, 2023, was the day that recorded the most circulation of news about the Brotherhood, by 88,912 times. Measuring the acceptance of the Muslim Brotherhood around the world revealed that France is the most popular country for tweets related to the Brotherhood during 2023, with 240,000 tweets and retweets. The majority of interactions came from medium-ranked tweets on the social networking site with a rate of 61.4%, compared to 12.4% for those with a high ranking. The majority of interactions by males reached 62.8%, while the largest percentage of interactions were from people who were over 44 years of age, who accounted for 63.4% of comments. Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of the Trends Research and Advisory, said that “measuring the acceptance rate of the Muslim Brotherhood around the world” reflects the trends of global public opinion through cyberspace towards the Muslim Brotherhood. In addition, it reveals the impact of the global campaigns led by the group, as well as the regions where the group is most active in defending its orientations and ideology. Dr. Al-Ali stated that the results of the measurement, which continued throughout 2023, concluded that the greatest interest in interactions through social media platforms was about the Brotherhood in France, followed by talk about the relationship between the group and Hamas, and the situation of the Brotherhood in Europe.  He added that the anti-Brotherhood trend clearly dominated social media sites by 81.8%. France came as the most anti-Brotherhood country, while Pakistan was the most supportive of the group. The CEO of Trends indicated that the center’s strategy always seeks to spread sound, constructive and balanced scientific thought, which is based on accurate foundations. Trends research exposes the ideologies and orientations of groups and currents that advocate a dark destructive thought that intends to destroy, intimidate, sabotage and terrorize peaceful people and communities. Dr. Al-Ali pointed out that “Trends” is keen to confront thought with thought, by refuting the false claims of these groups, and shielding the minds of young people against the poisonous ideas spread by these groups through cyberspace. Combating the Brotherhood group Fahad Al-Mahri, Head of Trends Dubai Sector, explained that “measuring the acceptance of the Muslim Brotherhood is about how social media users view the Muslim Brotherhood in different parts of the world? “The index monitors everything written about the Brotherhood during 2023 on social media, with the aim of building a measurement of the group’s popularity and measuring public opinion attitudes towards the group. He added that the measurement relied on building an analytical “SWOT” model based on four elements, namely: (strengths, weaknesses, and threats), and explain the opportunities available to deal with the Brotherhood’s spread. Al-Mahri stressed that the measurement outputs included a detailed report that highlighted all the analytical aspects, quantitative and qualitative, of the sample on which the measurement was based. It identified the threats and opportunities available to combat the group. He indicated that the percentage of the negative comments about the approach of the Brotherhood represented 68.8% of the measurement sample. The interactions explained that the group does not represent the Islamic religion, but rather distorted it and offended Muslims. The interactions stressed that the group’s approach is deviant and extremist, while most of the blogs described the Brotherhood as “the Kharijites of the contemporary age.” Many social media users stressed that the Brotherhood group does believe in the concept of belonging to the nation-state and loyalty to the homeland.
