With so much happening in the world of terrorist financing over the past couple of years, a substantial update of this book, first published in 2022, became inevitable. While it may not make front-page news, it is crucial that both the financial sector and political authorities keep this issue at the top of their agendas.
The ABC of Terrorist Financing was written in 2021 and published in 2022, setting out an inventory of the means by which terrorists fund their operations. This 2025 version now takes into account recent national and global events, further validating the analyses and predictions made previously.
Money for Terrorism renews the call for greater international cooperation and sustained efforts to tackle financial crime. The fight against money laundering, which lies at the heart of the system, must take priority—after all, we are talking about sums exceeding $2,000 billion a year.
But how do we deal with neighboring countries—both allies and partners— whose economic models take a lax approach to all of this?
This guide includes several new chapters examining how the Muslim Brotherhood and the Far Right are financed, along with a valuable addition focused on “ill-gotten gains.” Readers may well feel significant concern over the book’s subject matter, but they will also gain real insight into the loopholes—intentional or otherwise— within the global financial system and the willingness of political leaders to address them.
This book and its update would not have been possible without the invaluable contribution of financial security expert Morgane Millory, to whom I extend my sincerest thanks.
